What are the differences between the various types of Barbour waxed cottons?Updated 10 months ago

  • 6 oz (170 g) Sylkoil waxed cotton is the most traditional waxed cotton. It is a non-sheared cotton where the cotton comes directly from the loom and is then dyed and waxed. The fabric may have natural imperfections that improve the finish over time.
  • 6 oz (170 g) Thornproof waxed cotton has a glossy and uniform consistency. The cotton is pressed between rollers to achieve a smooth, shinier finish. This makes the material very robust, wear and tear-resistant.
  • 8 oz (226 g) Oban waxed cotton is slowly passed through emery rollers to provide a fine, matt suede-like finish before waxing. This is Barbour's strongest and most durable waxed cotton.
  • 4 oz (113 g) Lightweight waxed cotton weighs approximately 30% less than other waxed cottons. It has excellent wax retention, so it needs to be waxed less often. This type of waxed cotton is ideal for the warmer seasons.
